Imperial Guard Valkyrie

Throwback Thursday

Like most wargammers, I started off with the gateway drug that is Warhammer 40K.  Here's an Imperial Guard Valkyrie I painted up.  This was one of my first times using an airbrush.

I magnetized the weapon options.

Cockpit details.  Bonus points if you recognize those helmets.

I added some a nose-art decal.  It was more translucent than I expected.

I painted the interior and magnitized the rear ramp.

I eventually sold this off.  I wonder where it is now?  Let me know if there's a sighting.

West German Infantry and LARS Battery

Another group of reinforcements for my Team Yankee West Germans.

I may have finally cracked the code on a subtle snow effect on these Marders...

LW Germans (Winter) Part II

Throwback Thursday

Everyone loves big tanks.  I added some heavy armor to my German collection so I could run a heavy tank list.

went with a slightly different camo patter on these to mix it up a bit.

A pair of whirblewinds give me some more options.

Volkssturm

Panzerrenadiers

On these and the whirblewinds I left them plain dunkelgelb under the winter camo.

These AA guns were made to be interchangeable with future 2cm guns as well.

I magnetized the AA guns to make them fully traversable.

I added another recon unit.  These would give me recon options in more lists.  In particular, I was interested in running 3x patrols with the PaK40-armed 234.  I acquired them, but never got around to painting them yet.

I was please that Battlefront included both turrents in the kit.  A little less please they release a plastic box set just after I finished these.

Here's the list I used in that years tournament season.  It did pretty well.

Painting Completed! German Armored cars, misc DAK, and LW German Infantry

Production continues at a quickened pace thanks to all the miniatures partially completed during my brief exile.

I completed the last five armored cars.  See my previous post for how I did the conversion on those three to the right.
Close up of details on the conversions.
Achievement Unlocked: Field an Armored Car Company.  (I have plent of 8-rads).  I've use subtle variations in decal placement to distinguish between platoons.

2x PaK36 AT guns, 2x 2.8cm AT guns, and Command Motorcycles for my EW Kradschutzen Companie.

Also put the finishing touches on some LW German Infantry.  This will allow me to field two infantry platoons with some Panzershriek teams in my Winter-themed German Army.

LW Germans (Winter)

Throwback Thursday.
Back when I decided to attend Wolfkrieg 2014 I ran into a problem immediately.  It would be a themed event eastern front event, but I had only Americans.

Desperate Measured had just been released.  I chose Germans and began assembling a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude.  I managed to get the whole thing down during the winter.
Here's the list I ended up taking to Wolfkrieg 2014.

Luchs and Hetzers.  These were the first units I finished and my first time trying the "hairspray technique" for paint chipping.  I gradually got a little better at it.
Panzer IV Js formed the core of my force.

I added tank riders to one platoon.  This was mostly to make it easy to tell one platoon from another

I liked how these came out.  I placed riders on the hull and turret of four tanks.  This allowed be to swap turrets around with the riderless hull and make from 4 to 8 tanks with riders.
Good 'ole Rudel.

Some cheap artillery.  The tree added to the observer's base made them less likely to be forgotten on the table.  Does that happen to anyone else a lot?
Armored AA platoon.  Just in case.

I decided to replace the hetzer platoon with a king tiger just before Wolfkrieg 2014.
This was more of a test piece for the snow effect.  I used drywall spackle, going for a "spring snow" look.

Painted completed!

As mentioned in a previous post, I partially completed a goodly number of miniatures when I was overseas.  Last week I put the finishing touches on my US Infantry for Bolt Action.  It's been a awhile since I painted this scale, but I think they turned out OK.

I also finished up some DAK infantry for MW and EW.

HMG Platoon (or sMG for MW infantry platoons)

8cm Mortar Platoon (or 8cm mortars for MW infantry platoons)
